Indonesia has told the world when its tax office will start sharing crypto data with other countries: 2027. The detail most coverage skipped is where that puts Indonesia on the calendar. In OECD tables for the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF), Indonesia sits in the 2027 group with Japan and Korea, while Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines are listed for 2028.
The second detail is the size of the tax base being protected. Indonesia's tax office reports Rp2.15 trillion collected from crypto since 2022, yet the financial regulator OJK recorded Rp23.16 trillion of crypto trading in August 2026 alone. The two numbers measure different things (tax collected versus trading value).
Web3 Week Asia takes place in Jakarta on 11-12 November 2026, and this article sets out what was announced, what the tax data shows and what remains unpublished, as of 27 October 2026, 07:30 WIB.
Announcement. On 15 October 2026, Deputy Finance Minister Nurkholisoh Ibnu Aman said at a seminar at the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) in Jakarta that Indonesia has adopted the OECD's CARF and that the first exchange of information will take place in 2027.
Collected so far. DJP reported cumulative crypto tax receipts of about Rp2.15 trillion from 2022 to 31 August 2026, made up of Rp1.27 trillion in income tax (PPh Article 22) and Rp881.82 billion in domestic VAT.
Rates. Final PPh 22 is 0.21% of transaction value on registered domestic platforms and 1% on unregistered foreign platforms, which the seller remits personally, according to DDTCNews. PMK 50/2025 has applied since 1 August 2025.
Users. The Finance Ministry cited more than 23 million consumer crypto accounts as of August 2026. OJK reported 23.21 million consumer accounts transacting that month.
Not yet public. Partner jurisdictions, the data fields to be exchanged, the reporting thresholds and the legal basis were not specified in the coverage reviewed.
What was announced on 15 October 2026
According to DDTCNews, the Deputy Finance Minister said digital assets can cross borders "almost instantly". The Director General of Taxes, Bimo Wijayanto, was quoted by the same outlet arguing that high tax rates without strong enforcement push trading offshore, and that better information is the answer rather than higher rates.
CNBC Indonesia, Investor.id, DDTCNews and Viva all reported the 2027 date. ANTARA English dated the seminar to Thursday in its text but captioned a photo Tuesday, 13 October 2026; 15 October 2026 (a Thursday) is used because the other outlets agree on it.
CARF is a reporting standard developed by the OECD and the G20: crypto service providers collect user information and tax authorities exchange it automatically. Indonesia has not published the practical layer, meaning partner countries, data fields and the rule that makes platform reporting mandatory.
Rp2.15 trillion collected: what the year-by-year numbers show
DJP release SP-21/2026, issued on 17 September 2026, gives the annual breakdown of crypto tax receipts: Rp246.54 billion in 2022, Rp220.89 billion in 2023, Rp620.38 billion in 2024, Rp796.74 billion in 2025, and Rp268.95 billion for January to August 2026.
Averaged by month, 2025 produced about Rp66.4 billion per month (Rp796.74 billion over 12 months). January to August 2026 produced about Rp33.6 billion per month (Rp268.95 billion over 8 months). That is roughly 49% lower per month, comparing two different windows.
Why this matters: the lower 2026 pace sits alongside OJK data showing Rp23.16 trillion of crypto trading in August 2026, up 12.87% from July 2026 according to OJK as reported by ANTARA. Receipts and trading value are different series, so no conclusion about evasion can be drawn from them.
Indonesia is in the early CARF group, Singapore is not
OECD's list of jurisdictions committed to CARF, last updated 17 June 2025, shows 69 jurisdictions: 52 for first exchanges in 2027 and 17 for 2028. An Irish Revenue table marked "as of 10 June 2026" shows 74: 48 for 2027 and 26 for 2028. The totals disagree, so treat them as a range of 69 to 74 committed jurisdictions.
Both tables list Indonesia, Japan and Korea for 2027, and Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines for 2028. DJP's own CARF page cites the 69 figure from the June 2025 OECD data.
Why this matters: Indonesia may be exchanging data a year before several regional hubs, so platforms serving Indonesian users will not all report on the same schedule.
The honest counterweight
Receipts are not a measure of leakage. The Rp2.15 trillion figure is tax actually collected. It does not show how much tax was owed. As a scale check only, Rp23.16 trillion of August 2026 trading at 0.21% would be about Rp48.6 billion if all of it were taxed at the domestic rate; platform mix and payment timing are unknown.
The monthly decline is not explained. DJP's release does not split 2026 receipts between PPh 22 and VAT, and it does not say whether rate changes under PMK 50/2025 or market conditions drove the lower pace. No source reviewed establishes the cause.
A 2027 exchange is a start date, not a result. Partner countries, data fields and the legal basis were not specified in the coverage reviewed, and CARF timelines in the OECD tables differ between versions. Tax revenue effects, if any, would come later.
Indonesia crypto users and platforms: what changes in 2027
On domestic platforms the 0.21% tax is already withheld. The exposure differs for users on foreign platforms, where the 1% final tax must be remitted by the seller personally, according to DDTCNews. CARF is designed to give tax authorities a way to see activity on those platforms through reports sent between countries. Officials describe it as strengthening oversight of cross-border transactions; operating details are unpublished.
The Finance Ministry, Bank Indonesia and OJK are to cooperate on preparing the crypto data, according to DDTCNews. With 23.21 million accounts transacting in August 2026 per OJK, data volumes will be large.
Web3 Week Asia 2026: blockchain event in Jakarta, 11-12 November
Web3 Week Asia 2026 takes place on 11-12 November 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The two-day crypto and blockchain event covers markets, regulation, infrastructure and venture investment across Southeast Asia, and cross-border tax reporting is part of the regulatory picture that all four of those themes touch.
According to the organisers, the 2025 edition drew more than 5,000 participants, over 100 speakers, more than 200 companies and attendees from more than 10 countries. The 2026 speaker line-up is to be announced.
For founders, investors and compliance teams in Jakarta, the 2027 CARF start date is a concrete reason to discuss reporting readiness and cross-border tax treatment.

Event facts are from the organisers as of 2 October 2026.
Methodology: Monthly averages divide the DJP annual figures by 12 for 2025 and by 8 for January to August 2026; the 49% difference is 1 minus (33.62 divided by 66.40). The Rp48.6 billion scale check is Rp23.16 trillion multiplied by 0.21% and is illustrative only. DJP's annual figures sum to Rp2,153.5 billion while its components (Rp1.27 trillion and Rp881.82 billion) sum to Rp2,151.8 billion; both round to Rp2.15 trillion. Sources disagreed on the number of CARF jurisdictions (69 versus 74), so both are shown. The Rp23.16 trillion trading value has one reported source and is attributed. Partner lists were excluded because none were published.
